Juniors Terry Wang and Cooper Smith discuss current politics on their podcast called Immature Politics. With the ongoing political situation today, it’s difficult to not have an opinion on it, but while some students just talk about it, others are expressing their views in different ways.
Juniors Terry Wang and Co-host Cooper Smith created a podcast mainly advertised to High School students to discuss current political events. Their podcast, Immature Politics, is available on Spotify abd consits currently of 11 episodes ranging from thirty minutes to an hour in length. Each episode features their differentiating views through the perspective of a democrat and a republican to discuss current happenings.
“My political involvement really kicked off after the 2016 campaign,” said Terry Wang. “I also want to hopefully let adults see that our generation is becoming increasingly educated and knowledgeable about politics.”
Throughout the podcasts, Wang demonstrates his democrat views in debate with Smith, who expresses his side of the debate as a Republican. Besides recording their podcast every Friday night, Wang volunteers for the Al Muratsuchi campaign. Also, Smith heads the Young Republicans Club at Costa and attends the Young Adults for Freedom club.
“My intentions are to spark some interest and to help people become more mindful and educated about issues,” said Wang.
Wang and Smith use the technology they have access to like earbuds and smart phones to record their podcast on the app “Anchor”. This allows them to be in different places if needed to record, as well as incorporate featured guests.
“We discuss a variety of political issues ranging from abortion, to gun control, to Russia,” said Smith. “I hope the podcast will encourage people to questions their views and gain more perspective on issues.”
