Mira Costa beat Peninsula 42-40 on January 18,2019 at Manhattan Beach Middle School with a top performance by Henry Housholter.
Mira Costa came out with a lot of aggression and passion. The first quarter was very low scoring for both teams but Costa held a strong front on defense. By the second quarter Costa was warmed-up and began attacking on offense including a three pointer by senior Lucas Hobbs and another one by junior Max McCalla, ending the half with a score of 21-17, Costa with the lead. According to McCalla the team had a strong defense throughout the half.
“ We played great defense the entire first half and after a slow start on offense, our shots eventually stated to fall.” Said McCalla
The ball went back and forth throughout the third quarter. Costa struggled to hit shots but luckily did not fall too behind due to their defensive game. As the fourth quarter came around Costa began to rebuild momentum on offense starting with a three point shot by junior Tyler Antrobious. As their offense grew stronger with baskets by seniors, Parker Lynch and Lucas Hobbs Costa took back their lead. Finishing the game with a final score of 42-40, Mira Costa with the win. According to Antrobious the team fought hard throughout the second half.
“ We stayed tough and fought through adversity. Eventually our shots began to fall so we locked them up on defense.” Said Antrobious.
Mira Costa will next face off Palos Verdes high school on January 22, 2019 at 7:30pm at Palos Verdes.
“ We are feeling very confident about our next game against PV. It is always fun playing in a hostile environment against a team like them.” Said senior Lucas Hobbs.
