Mira Costa’s student newspaper La Vista received a Gold Medalist rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association on Feb. 18. CSPA gave last year’s 11 issues of La Vista 928 points out of a possible 1000, which constituted a Gold Medal.
The publication also won all-Columbian honors rating for “coverage” and “business.”
“The staff is articulate, the coverage wide-ranging, relevant to readers and often impressively thorough,” CSPA said in its critique.
La Vista is currently analyzing the critique to improve the quality of its publication.
“The paper has a long history of winning these awards, and I came to it with a lot of pride because of it. That pride, along with a desire to live up to my predecessors, was what motivated me to work hard. I think any future Editors-in-Chief will see that standard of quality, especially with one more award, and be motivated to do the same,” alumnus and former Editor-in-Chief Austin Siegemund-Broka said.
