Mira Costas annual Homecoming Week kicked off with lots of excitement. The week started on Saturday, October 19, with the homecoming dance. The week was filled with festivities, including a pep rally on Tuesday October 22nd, themed spirit dress up days throughout the week, and homecoming court games in the quad. To end the week, the big homecoming football game will take place on Friday, October 25. With the wide range of activities, students had the opportunity to showcase their school spirit throughout the week.
Mira Costa’s 2024 Homecoming Dance themed “A Night In Ibiza,” took place on Saturday, October 19, in the Athletic Complex from 7 PM to 11 PM. The event featured dancing, dinner, dessert and more along with various activities for students to enjoy including airbrush tattoos, photo booths, and caricature artists. There was even a secret casino room where students could only access if they had the password. It was filled with blackjack and poker tables for students to gamble and then from there could cash in their “money” for prizes.
“The homecoming dance was very eventful this year with tons to do,” Sophomore Savine Nguyen said. “With all the different activities like karaoke, photo booths and caricature artists, it was hard to do everything.”
Mira Costa’s annual homecoming pep rally took place on Tuesday, October 22nd, in the gym after the second period, bringing together the entire student body to get ready for the upcoming football game. The pep rally consisted of exciting games run by ASB and a performance by the Mira Costa Cheer and Dance Team. The highlight for most students of the fall rally was the homecoming court’s dance routine, which featured a mix of tiktok trends and dances.
“The pep rally was a big success because everyone in the crowd was cheering and having fun showing their school spirit, ” said Senior Carter Gentry. “ I especially enjoyed watching the homecoming court dance and show what they have been working on.”
ASB’s main goal was to get students involved in pre-homecoming festivities, and they did this by planning dress up days for the week from Oct. 21-25. Monday was pajama bottoms and sports logo shirt, Tuesday was hoe down throw down, Wednesday was USA, Thursday was Tropical, and Friday was Super Stampede Day. ASB believes that by planning these dress up days, it encourages the student body to bring their school spirit and be more involved.
“For ASB (Associated Student Body) it’s a given that everyone participates everyday of the week for dress up days,” said Sophomore Jewel Young. “I think it’s a great way to get everyone excited for the homecoming game and show off our spirit as a school.”
The week will conclude with the big homecoming football game on Friday, October 25, where Mira Costa will play Leuzinger High School at 7:00pm at Waller Stadium. A large crowd is expected at the homecoming game. During halftime the homecoming court, cheer team, and dance team will ride across the field in floats and mustang cars, and the homecoming royalty will be revealed.
“I’m really looking forward to the homecoming game this Friday,” says Junior Lyla Pool. “The atmosphere at the homecoming game is always a different level and I’m extra excited to watch all halftime performances.”
With the homecoming dance, pep rally, and Spirit week already a huge success, students are eager for the homecoming football on Friday night. Anticipation is high as the Mustangs prepare to face Leuzinger High School in what promises to be an excited match. With students and staff eager to show their support, this years’ homecoming week is set to end on a high note, bringing the school together through celebration.
