The Mira Costa choir will hold a send-off concert on Feb. 12 in the Mira Costa Auditorium to raise money for its trip to Carnegie Hall in March.
The event will serve not only as a fundraiser but also as a chance for the choir to practice the songs it will sing at Carnegie Hall in March. Members of vocal ensemble, advanced women’s choral and multicultural choir will perform in the event.
“This concert will be a preview to what the real show will be in March,” junior Buster Baer said. “The parents and friends who aren’t able to go to Carnegie Hall will get to hear us sing.”
The cost of the Carnegie Hall trip is high due to airfare, room and board fees. The send-off concert is charging $20 per person, and all proceeds will go to the students who are going to Carnegie Hall.
“[The concert] is a fundraiser for the students,” choir director Michael Hayden said. “All the money goes to each of the students [that are going on the trip] to help defer the costs.”
Carnegie Hall is one of the most elite and exclusive venues that the Mira Costa choir has been invited to. Together vocal ensemble, members from the advanced women’s choral and multicultural choir, and students from 450 other schools will be part of the National Youth Chorus at Carnegie Hall.
“The National Youth Chorus will be singing seven songs, two of which are ‘Zion’s Walls’ and ‘Let Everything that Hath Breath Praise the Lord,’ which will be the gospel big finale,” Hayden said.
Vocal ensemble will be the featured choir at Carnegie Hall. Some of the songs it will be performing are “Machet die Tore Weit” and “Richte Micht Gott.”
“This choir send-off concert will be a great way for all of our choirs to be able to practice for the big concert in March,” Baer said. “We have a lot of songs to remember, and we can’t mess up for the real thing.”
