Former Mira Costa instructional assistant Christopher Wayne Gray plead guilty to one count of sexual misconduct under California Penal Code 288 (a) P.C. on Jan. 5 and was sentenced to three years in state prison.
The Manhattan Beach Police Department originally arrested Gray on Oct. 5 on nine counts of sexual misconduct, but after a negotiated settlement, the charges were reduced to one. Penal Code 288 (a) P.C. states that “any person who willfully and lewdly commits any lewd or lascivious act” with a child under the age of 14 is guilty of a felony.
The three-year sentence is the minimum number of years allowed for the punishment of the felony, with the Penal Code stating the sentences allowed as “three, six, or eight years,” depending on the severity of the crime.
