Track wins tri-meet against North Torrance and Beverly Hills

On March 8, the Mira Costa track and field squads traveled to Beverly Hills with North Torrance for a tri-meet. Both the boys and girls won by a large margin.

For boys, sophomore Anderson Carter had a time of 51 seconds in the 400 meter, which was .06 seconds short of tying the Costa sophomore record. Senior Dan Golubovic placed first in the high jump with 6’5″, one inch short of breaking the varsity record.

Senior Kyle Hubbard placed first in 110 m hurdles, 300 m hurdles, and long jump, earning 15.3 seconds, 40.7 seconds, and 19’4″ respectively. Senior Dylan Gates broke two minutes and placed first in the 800 m with a time of 1:58. Senior Adam Perez was successful in the 3200 m with a time of 10:07.

For girls, Jenna Tong and Kelli Sugimoto tied for first in the 1600 m with a time of 5:15 while Abby Hong followed in third with a time of 5:16. Senior Acacia Moore placed first in the 110 m hurdles with a time of 16.1 seconds.

Senior Ashley Dotson placed first in the 400 and 200 m with times of 58.5 seconds and 25.4 seconds respectively while senior Claire Barnett placed first in the 800 m. In shot put, Chelsea Tatum placed first with 28 ft. 6 in. while Yovanna Iniguez and Leah Nunn placed second and third respectively. Senior Amanda Villapando and junior Kirby Benson tied for first in the long jump with 14 ft. 8 in.

The Mustangs will travel to South Torrance on March 14 for their second away meet.
