Two students at Mira Costa High School were arrested on campus between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m. on Mar. 14.
The arrests were made by Costa’s Security Resource Officer John Loy, who also conducted the investigation. Both students were arrested for conspiring to commit burglary on campus.
“The case will go to the District Attorney for filing,” Loy said. “What happens depends on what charges are filed, if any are filed.”
The offenders were each called separately to the old administration building during lunch, and were then separately arrested by Officer Loy for burglary and conspiracy.
“Conspiracy is two or more people planning or committing a crime,” Loy said. “Burglary is the stealing of property. They can be charged for both.”
It has been assumed that the two students were planning to the steal personal property of other students, though there is no confirmation of this. The investigation started two hours before the arrests.
“A victim reported something was stolen,” Loy said. “And an investigation was started.”
The grade levels of the offenders cannot be released, and no further information will be available until the investigation is completed.
