On March 27 and 28, the Mira Costa swimming teams competed in the first ever South Bay Swimming Invitational at home in the Costa pool. The Mustangs saw more success during the preliminary rounds in relays than in the individual competitions, winning seven out of 12 relays.

“We’re stronger as a team than we are as individuals, and I think that’s cool to be able to say,” head coach Dan Bartlette said.

For girls, senior Natalie Lavinsky placed second in the 50 and 100 free with times of 25.74 and 56.71 seconds respectively. In boys, freshman Ed Jeon placed a school record in the 100 free with a time of 50.90 seconds and won the 50 free with a time of 23.22 seconds.

The Mustangs will advance from the prelims and finish the invitational at home on March 30.
