The pop singer-songwriter Jason Mraz’s fourth album “Love is a Four Letter Word” is filled with sweet melodic sounds and original lyrics that fit with the title. Mraz’s loving energy is radiated through this album.

“Love is a Four Letter Word” ventures off into other musical genres. The tracks on this album each have a slightly different feel than the last which is unique to Jason Mraz. His albums usually have that same optimistic beat.

Mraz released his first album “Waiting for My Rocket to Come” in 2002. The single “The Remedy (I Won’t Worry)” put Mraz on the musical map. “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.” is the pop singer’s third album which made its way onto the Billboard Hot 200.

Mraz’s fourth album is filled with a calm and romantic lyrical flow. This album explores familiar ideals in love leaving the listener feeling serenated and relaxed. The songs each depict an aspect of love and desire.

“93 Million Miles” is the strongest song on the album with his infectious voice as the star of the song. The lyrics, “Just know you’re never alone; you can always come back home,” are quite comforting. The positive acoustic melody throughout the song plays well with the hopeful lyrics.

The album continues positive upbeat love tracks such as “Living in the Moment” and “5’6.” Both songs have a sing-along quality and are relatable. “Living in the Moment” talks about letting go of things and moving on which most people understand.

Mraz’s signature reggae flavor really comes through with the song “The Freedom Song.” It is a feel good song with the lyrics that describe people smiling. This song gives off a feel good feeling.

“I Won’t Give Up” is one of the softer songs on the album. It talks about progress and perseverance in a relationship. Its tenderness and sugary sound of this song make it one to be replayed continuously.

“5/6” discusses love in a different sense than the rest of the songs on the album. It talks about the joy of raising children and living a simple and tranquil lifestyle. This brings a new angle to the album leaving back the reggae and bringing in a jazzy flavor.

“Everything is Sound” is a song that talks about celebrating simple things. It is motivational in a sense that it says everything is exactly where it is supposed to be. The musical beat in this song helps carry the message.

With the various song sounds, such as reggae and jazz, this album is a worthy blend of music. It has the original Jason Mraz feel to it but its great lyrical quality makes this album a front runner.

“Love is a Four Letter Word” is $10.99 on iTunes.
