Paris Model United Nations, also known as PAMUN, accepted Costa’s MUN program’s request to attend the 2012 conference in Paris, France.
Costa MUN advisor Wayne Knutson will accompany 15 MUN members to Paris from Dec. 1-10. The trip coincides with Mira Costa’s annual novice MUN conference, Los Angeles Invitational MUN XVIII.
“We heard good things about the quality of the conference,” Knutson said. “We’re taking a small group, so there should be little disruption to LAIMUN.”
Costa is one of four United States schools attending PAMUN. Students will debate in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization building, also known as UNESCO.
“It’s a big opportunity for me, seeing as I haven’t gone on many travel trips,” MUN member sophomore Alec Hoffman said. “It’s a good chance to show of my skills by thinking on my feet.”
According to Knutson, the trip costs around $2,000 per student. PAMUN is one of the most expensive conferences.
“I decided to not go on the school France trip in order to go to this conference,” Hoffman said. “It was a tough decision, but I’ll be able to gain more on this trip than a recreational one.”
