In the first two weeks of school, many Mira Costa students voiced their opinions on the construction of the new math and science building in the Peck Parking Lot.
Despite the fact that many students find learning difficult during the construction, some still think the benefits of the construction will outweigh the inconveniences.
“I feel that the construction is definitely necessary and worth it because Costa needs to expand to accommodate the large classes that will be coming here in the following years,” Student Government President Dillon Shambaugh said. “That being said, the construction definitely does have an effect on the learning environment.”
Though some juniors and seniors expressed concerns about the construction because of limited parking, others have a different view.
“As I come to school at zero period, parking is not a problem for me, but I know it is for many other people,” senior Danielle Kay said. “However, I still think that the construction is worth it because Costa needs a renovation.”
However, some students continue to express complaints about the construction.
“I think that the new math and science building is not worth the noise, space, and money it takes to build it,” said freshman Roy McFarland.
Others are indifferent to the construction.
“I don’t really care about the construction because I only have to deal with it for one year, since I am a senior,” senior Blake Hawkes said.
Some still believe there are actions Costa could take to make the construction experience more
enjoyable for all students and staff.
“Although I think the construction is worth it, I think that if the school didn’t allow construction
during the school day and instead did it after school, it would really help everyone at Costa,” said sophomore Yazmine Al-Uqdah.
