The Mira Costa girls varsity volleyball team played their first Bay League match against Palos Verdes High School away on Wednesday Sept. 26. The Mustangs defeated Palos Verdes, 4-1.
Mira Costa dominated offensively in the first set with a score of 25-11. The Mustangs took the first two sets with the help of senior middle blocker, Kelsey Mcintire, who had a total of 10 kills.
“We were all connecting and had great communication on court,” said junior Sammy Furlan. “The first two sets we we really came out to win.”
Despite the first two sets, the Sea Kings managed to win the third set with a score of 24-26. Costa came back in the fourth set with senior setter Corie Bain with 40 kills and senior outside hitter, Lexi Millington, who led the defense with 16 digs.
“We came back from our third set with great defense,” said Furlan. “We weren’t thinking about our last game, but staying concentrated on beating PV.”
Costa’s overall record is now 5-7 as they start their regular season. The Mustangs’ next match will be against Laguna Beach High School at Mira Costa on Wednesday Oct. 3.
