Mira Costa High School inducted 17 well-accomplished Costa alumni into the Hall of Fame on Sept. 28.
The inductees were honored at a breakfast on Friday morning, an assembly during third period, and at the football game that night.
“We have reporters who are famous now from famous surfers to volleyball stars and more,” student body Vice President Rachel Humphrey said. “It includes anyone who has done something great with the help of Mira Costa.”
Bill Cooper introduced the idea and the event was put together by former school board members Denise Anderson, Beverly Roher and Gary Hartzell. Mira Costa teachers, Lisa Claypoole and Stefani Owen, and student body Vice President Rachel Humphrey were also involved.
“It’s been a long time up and running,” Claypoole said. “Hopefully it will become a quicker process in upcoming years.”
The new Hall of Fame is a way to give students inspiration to achieve their goals after graduating Mira Costa.
“I was a journalist here and then I became a creative writer. It wasn’t until after I published my second book that I went back to journalism that I started writing for The New York Times and National Geographic,” Hall of Fame inductee and author Mark Sundeen said.
