Juniors Michelle Tran and Annie Munson created one of the first new clubs of the school year, Music for Life, in order to dedicate time to promoting the importance of music.
The purpose of the club is to encourage elementary and middle school students who are interested in music to continue their interests in Mira Costa’s marching band and orchestra programs.
“We want to organize fun bonding events between Mira Costa orchestra and band members and the elementary school music students,” Tran said.
The club will also hold informational meetings later in the year to provide answers to any questions the elementary or middle school students and parents might have regarding the club and the Costa music programs.
“It’s great that this club is spreading the word about the music programs at Costa,” senior Isaac Siegemund-Broka said. “Hopefully more students will participate in the programs.”
The revenue Music For Life earns from Club Day and other fundraisers will be used to assist lower-income schools with their own music programs as well.
“We want to make sure that we encourage those who are beginning to play an instrument to continue playing throughout high school,” Munson said.
Music for Life gives members the opportunity to mentor elementary and middle school students and expose them to band and orchestra at a higher level. Music for Life meets on Tuesdays during lunch in Room 109.
“Both Annie and I gained a lot from orchestra and created this club to ensure others reap music’s benefits as well,” Tran said.
