The Mira Costa varsity girls golf team triumphed at the Bay League Finals Individual Qualifier tournament on Oct. 17.
Four of the seven girls sent to the tournament qualified to continue to CIF at the tournament at the Lakewood Country Club. Freshmen Andrea Lee and placed first with 72 shots, two under par; Marni Murez placed eighth with 78 shots; junior Megan Kim tied for second with 73 shots, one under par, and senior Kari Gordon placed sixth with 77 shots.
“We were trying to get as many girls as possible to make it to the next round,” Gordon said. “Four girls is really an achievement.”
With a 9-0 record, the Mustangs are Bay League champions. Their record for the season is 175 shots in a match against Peninsula High School. Oct. 22 the girls will be competing in the Bay League Finals Team Qualifier tournament at Los Cerados Golf Course.
“We can’t be afraid of our upcoming competition,” said Kim. “We need to focus on our own games and see where it will take us.”
Throughout the match Mustangs maintained a strong consistency in scoring. At each hole the strong individuals were able to maintain their powerful lead.
