Manhattan Beach residents attended “Reflect on the Past, Give Meaning to the Future,” a community discussion on Dec. 1 at the Joslyn Community Center, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Manhattan Beach.

Manhattan Beach residents Robert Brigham, Russ Lesser, Beverly Rohrer and Arthur Verge led a discussion about the city’s history. Several community organizations presented.

“I learned that all of the diverse people who live in Manhattan Beach can get together to celebrate the history of our city,” Mayor Wayne Powell said. “Some residents are new and some have been here for more than 60 years, but everybody came together for this celebration.”

To further celebrate the 100th anniversary, Skechers sponsored a fireworks show on Dec. 9 that followed the 24th annual Holiday Fireworks on the Manhattan Beach pier.

“The centennial is very important as it helps us take the time to think about the past 100 years and the future of Manhattan Beach,” Lesser said. “It gives us a chance to think about what makes our city such a special place.”
