Another critically-acclaimed pizzeriastyle restaurant is coming to dominate the taste buds of the South Bay.
Pitfire Artisan Pizza, a Los Angeles eatery, is expanding its business into Manhattan Beach in place of the recently closed Pomodoro on the corner of Morningside Drive on Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
Pitfire Artisan Pizza has various locations in North Hollywood, West Los Angeles, Downtown Los Angeles, Culver City and West Hollywood. According to Pitfire’s co-founder, the expansion of the restaurant to Manhattan Beach was inevitable.
“Expanding to both the South Bay and Orange County is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” co-founder Paul Hibler said. “Not only is the Manhattan Beach space centrally located in the heart of downtown, [but] the beach community’s culinary scene has continued to evolve, and its family-focused, tight-knit neighborhood makes it the perfect fit for us.”
The company was founded by Hibler and David Sanfield in 1997. Since then, the chain has expanded to seven locations, including the one in Manhattan Beach. The Manhattan Beach restaurant is set to open this January.
“The addition of this restaurant to the South Bay will be beneficial to its diverse population,” senior Josh Cavallo said. “I’m looking forward to trying this restaurant.”
Located on Manhattan Beach Boulevard, the restaurant will have indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the foods that will be served are various types of Italian-inspired soups, pizzas, salads, pastas, paninis and desserts like the famous Pitfire Smothered Cookie.
“Although I am really sad that Pomodoro permanmently closed, I’m excited about this new restaurant,” sophomore Hailey Kay said. “The food, especially the sundaes, are delicious.”
In addition to serving Italian cuisine in the restaurants, Pitfire Artisan Pizza caters home and office parties and hosts pizza-making parties for children. For larger parties, the restaurant offers full service, décor, entertainment and anything else required.
According to its website, Pitfire Artisan Pizza aims “to bring simple and time-honored values of communal cooking and eating to the modern world.” Along with this vision, Pitfire Artisan Pizza wants to create a place where people can unwind and interact with each other.
“Our mission is to create a community gathering place because we’re losing them in our lives,” Hibler said.
