The Mira Costa girls lacrosse team played in the Rose Bowl Jamboree on Saturday. Costa won one of the three games, though it does not count toward the official record.

The team lost the first game against Oak Park, 7-6. This was the first time the entire team played together this season, and the lack of cohesion as a team put them behind 4-2 at the end of the first half. The Mustangs lost the game with under five minutes to go.

“In the first half we were playing sloppy, and we knew we had to step up to match this team,” senior attacker Taylor Pool said.

The girls next faced Northwood. Another rocky start put them at a 2-2 draw to end the half, but Costa scored seven goals in the second half to win, 9-2.

The girls’ last game was against rival Redondo, but the Mustangs lost, 5-4.

“Our defense was pretty solid, but at times it was difficult because Redondo would pressure very quickly in transition,” senior center Carly McGuire said.
