The Costa track team ran in a non-scoring meet against Santa Monica and Torrance High Schools on Saturday at Waller Stadium. Senior Raphael Lawson-Gayle won the 100-meter sprint with an unofficial time of 10.87 seconds and won the 200-meter sprint.
“I felt really good about winning,” Lawson-Gayle said. “I was nervous the whole time because I didn’t think I would win or even place.”
The track team’s next meet was on Thursday against Beverly Hills High School and North Torrance High School, but results were not available due to time of publication.
“Even though this wasn’t a scoring meet, I think everyone excelled in each of the events they ran,” coach Moe Russell said.
