The Mira Costa girls softball team played against Buena Park High School on March 7 in an away match. The Mustangs won 14-1 in the non-league game and now have a 4-1 overall record.
Senior Nikki Gialketsis scored three runs throughout the game. Sophomore Sammy Matson scored two more runs, including a home run. The Mustangs were up 2-0 after the first inning and the girls scored five more runs during the fourth inning to hold the lead. Home runs were hit by juniors Shannon Savino and Sydney Haugh to help in Costa’s win.
“This was a great win for our team because we all went out with a lot of energy,” Savino said. “I think it showed in how well we played throughout the entire game.”
The girls will play away against Cypress High School on March 14 at 2:00.
