Tryouts for the Mira Costa Comedy Sportz team were held Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. in the drama room.
Team manager Jason Boxer will select 25 to 30 people for the team this year from more than 50 contenders who tried out.
“Numbers like this shouldn’t deter people from trying out, though. I auditioned for the team for the first time in my freshman year, and the only performing experience that I had was dancing around on stage in a play in preschool,” Boxer said.
Boxer plans to have their first match soon after try-outs.
“The professional Comedy Sportz team that performs in Hollywood is having a lot of economic trouble right now, and I want to have a match where all the proceeds go directly to them. If they can’t raise enough money, they’re going to go out of business at the end of October, so we need to have a match before then,” Boxer said.
The Comedy Sportz team practices every Tuesday and Wednesday night from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at team members’ houses. Boxer aims to get every team member into a match sometime during the year. He also hopes to organize special themed matches like the Parent Match, Alumni Match, Teacher Match, and possibly some holiday themed matches.
“I’m really looking forward to the try-outs. I’m hoping that I’ll fit in with the drama crowd and exceed their expectations,” senior Kyle Skippon said.
Make-up auditions will be held at lunch on Sept. 17 in drama room for those who cannot make the initial try-out date.
