Lacrosse has been a part of senior Alec Hoag’s life since the fourth grade. His hard work finally paid off with a college education. This coming fall, Hoag will be attending Boston University to continue his passion of lacrosse.

Hoag has played midfield for the varsity lacrosse team at Costa his junior and senior years. He also plays for club teams the Los Angeles Lazers, West Coast Starz, and Adrenaline Tropics. Hoag gained exposure from the Fellowship Of Christian Athletes 2013 National Team.

“Although Boston is a completely different environment than Southern California,” Hoag said. “I could not be more excited. I get to go to a great school, and play division one lacrosse.”

Hoag went to Vistamar High School for his freshman and sophomore years of high school, but the school did not have a lacrosse team. Hoag had to play on an El Segundo team while at Vistamar.

“Alec is great player on the field and a great friend off the field,” teammate senior Marcus Francis said. “We expect to have a great season with strong leaders on the field like Alec.”

The Boston University coaches expressed their interest in Hoag by inviting him to a camp at Boston last July. The camp is a way for the coaches to see a player’s skills and if they would be a good fit for the program. The coaches made their final offer at the camp.

“We heard wonderful things about the coach,” Hoag’s mother, Cindy Hoag said. “He is excited to keep playing, and just to go to school in the city in Boston.”

Boston University has never had a lacrosse team before. The school is a Division One sports school. The team will also join the Patriot League, which includes all the top lacrosse teams in the nation, like the Army and Navy Academies.

“Alec worked so hard to get to where he is,” Cindy Hoag said. “His counselor, Ms. Beauchaine was also a very big help. She helped get in his early decision paperwork and was very supportive throughout the process.”

Many different schools were interested in Hoag for their program. Hoag considered Michigan and Vermont, but in the end he liked the Boston environment the best.

“I am so proud of Alec and all he has accomplished,” Hoag’s sister, sophomore Natalie Hoag said. “He works so hard and really deserves this. I hope Boston is a good fit and he enjoys himself.”

Over Ski Week Hoag and his parents went on an official visit to Boston University. Hoag and all other incoming freshman got the chance to tour the campus, the athletic fields, and the dorms.

“The school was a perfect fit,” Hoag said. “I had so much fun on my visit and my teammates are great. I cannot wait until I arrive next fall.”
