Mira Costa’s Prom, which will be themed “An Affair to Remember,” will take place at the Park Plaza Hotel on Saturday, June 5 from 7 p.m. until midnight.
The theme of Prom will be centered around the Hollywood of the past, with old movies projected onto one the walls in the hotel. The venue was chosen nearly two years ago, at the time when planning began for the dance.
“We picked the theme because of the history of Park Plaza and because the hotel will be the grandest decoration on its own. We’ll also have big lights and a red carpet entrance. Red, black, gold and white are the planned components of the color scheme,” junior class Vice President Allie Wisialowski said.
In addition to dancing, there will be a photo booth, a caricaturist and blackjack and poker tables to provide entertainment throughout the evening. In past years, the casino tables have proven especially popular.
“We have other activities besides appetizers and dancing this year because we want to provide options for those who won’t be spending the entire night dancing,” Wisialowski said.
Besides the many activities that Associated Student Body has planned, there will also be an array of food served to guests. Junior class President Sydney Pratt and her team worked hard to choose a menu that they felt would please the highest possible number of their fellow students at prom.
“Some food that will be served at prom is mini pizza, bowtie pasta and other appetizers that I think will be very good. We think our desserts are also delicious,” Pratt said.
This year’s Prom was planned primarily by Pratt, Wisialowski and junior class Secretary/Treasurer Sam Curry, working together with various other members of ASB.
“The difference I see from this year and last year is the level of organization,” ASB President Isabella Mongiello said. “Last year, Activities Director Lisa Claypoole and I were the only ones involved. This year, there is a great group of four girls in charge.”
Organizers are especially excited because the Park Plaza is very large and has different rooms for the many activities that they wish to host.
“This year, the site is a lot bigger and there is going to be much more open space for mingling. There are separate rooms for eating, dancing and gambling in the casino. We hope that this will make the dance much easier to manage,” Wisialowski said.
After attending last year, many seniors are excited to attend Prom this year and have been looking forward to the product of all of ASB’s efforts.
“I’m really excited for Prom. I can’t wait to see all the activites that have been planned for us this year,” senior Kellen Kartub said.
