In this modern day and age, fitness and health are highly prioritized. The desire to be healthy, lead the juice bar, Nekter, to create a home-base in Manhattan Beach.
Nekter juice bar will replace the Cold Stone Creamery at the Metlox center in downtown Manhattan Beach within the next two weeks. Nekter was founded by Steve and Alexis Schulze, Costa Mesa locals who wanted a healthier lifestyle. They opened up the very first Nekter in 2010 in Costa Mesa, and it was a success according to the Shulze’s. Ever since then, the duo has opened up several more locations in Santa Monica, Laguna Beach and Newport Beach.
“Manhattan Beach is a charming beach community where the locals put importance on maintaining good health and achieving optimal wellness,” Director of Marketing Tiffany Carter said.
The Schulze’s first came up with the idea to open a juicery because they were tired of consuming drinks with a high sugar content, like soda. They wanted a healthy alternative for these excessively sweet drinks which led them to establishing their company, Nekter.
“It is a horrible feeling to go on a morning run and eat something bad for you right after,” sophomore Claire Helm said. “ It feels like you worked out for nothing.”
The menu consists of a variety of juices, smoothies, specialty drinks and acai bowls. All ingredients are 100% all natural, vegan and raw. Nekter also offers a variety of juice cleanses that vary between one to five day cleanses. The purpose of these juice cleanses is to rid the body of toxic buildup in the organs, digestive tract and skin. The classic cleanse contains six 16.9 oz of unique vegetable and fruit blends. It is most beneficial to drink one bottle every two hours along with a lot of water to flush out the toxins.
“I love doing juice cleanses because they always make you feel so rejuvenated and fresh after,” Sophomore Sam Sestanovich said.
Nekter ships their juice cleanses nationwide for private orders. When the juices are shipped, the package includes instructions for each days juice intake and a cooler bag to make sure the juice is at a chilled temperature. The prices range from 65 dollars for a once day cleanse to 300 dollars for a five day cleanse.
“Nekter’s ability to ship nationwide really gives the business an advantage because they can reach everybody even if they don’t have stores everywhere,” junior Gabby Wolf said.
According to several high school students the Metlox is a great location for a new business because there are several other local favorites around there already.
“I was a bit bummed when I found out Cold Stone was leaving but I think Nekter is the perfect replacement, “ Senior Aiden Medallion said.
The new store is planning on opening within the next two weeks. According to Carter, Nektar is very excited to open in such a great city as ours.
“I can’t wait for Nektar to open,” freshman Miranda Baldo said. “I have eaten at their other locations, and it’s delicious.”
