Track members advance to CIF Finals

The Mira Costa track team had a few members qualify to participate in the CIF preliminary round on Saturday, May 11. After the meet, several Mustangs qualified to advance to the next round at CIF finals.

Senior Raphael Lawson-Gayle set the new Costa record in the 100 meter sprint at 10.97 seconds beating the 2006 record of 10.99 seconds. He will also advance in the long jump. Junior Abby Hong advanced in the girls 3200 meter. In boys pole vault, seniors Sean Griffin and Reed Scale will both advance to the next round. The boys 4×400 meter runners won the heat at 3 minutes 24 seconds.

“This meet was amazing because It is such a great accomplishment to break the record,” Lawson-Gayle said. “I have remained focus all season and I’m ready to move on to the finals.”

The Mustangs will advance to the CIF finals on Saturday, May 18.
