Editors-in-Chief
For decades, students have shaped La Vista into a highly regarded, award-winning newspaper and what we believe to be the ideal medium for student expression. As two one-year editors, the task of filling these shoes and carrying on the lasting traditions of editors-in-chief seems nearly impossible.
While this thought sinks in, there are several places that (we have to remember) serve as sources of confidence for the upcoming year. With each new transition, the essence and spirit of those who are replaced carry on. Throughout the year, we have all placed complete faith in the guidance of the now-departing seniors, and we now have to trust the skills, lessons and that they have instilled in us.
We are confident that this tradition will continue as it stems from the origins of a completely student-run organization. An eclectic group of kids from all facets of Costa life are attracted to “LV,” drawn by the same desire to share their thoughts and ambitions in an idea-fostering environment. The diversity of those who find a home in room 6 inherently cultivates patterns of discussions, debates and even arguments.
We have come to find that we learn more about ourselves through this humbling process than in any other situation, and the end result? – a unified publication filled with a collection of unique identities.
Going forward, we see a determination to succeed and a willingness to learn in the upcoming leaders of La Vista. While this desire to improve is especially important in our green staff, it is something that can and should be applied to every aspect of our lives. It is naive to believe that we are ever done learning, and we understand that this attitude must be applied to everything we do next year if we have any intention of achieving success.
Lastly, we must thank Danny and Alec, for both of you had your own hand in our personal maturity as writers, our aspiring leadership and the incredible development of La Vista as a whole. You will undoubtedly go down in the ranks as one of the finest EIC duos in La Vista history.
While this coming year will definitely be different for room 6 (with only three returning section editors), there is something refreshing about a blank slate. We have all been influenced by those whose footsteps we follow, and it is now our turn to build upon that path and place our own stamps on the ongoing legacy that is La Vista.
