The Mira Costa Boys water polo team played Santiago High School on September 7th. The mustangs won 10-9 after four seven minute quarters and overtime. This was the boys’ first win and first game of the year.
The game shifted in Costa’s favor when junior Nick Dale blocked a penalty shot in the second overtime period. Then, with a minute remaining, senior Austin Norris threw the ball just out of reach of the Santiago goalkeeper and scored the winning goal.
“We played defense very well and as a team we’ve been practicing and conditioning very hard,” junior Jack Heagy said. “We plan to keep it up and work on more game situations.”
The boys will play next against Palos Verdes at home on September 24th at 3pm.
