The Mira Costa girls golf team started the season with two victories over North Torrance at the Chester Washington Golf Course and Victoria Golf Course. With an overall record of 2-0, the Mustangs have started the season successfully.
The Mustangs won their first match, 205-230, on Sept. 10, and the second match 211-227. Coach Jim Hands was very optimistic regarding the team’s chances in CIF. He noted Megan Kim as a freshman with an excellent swing and a strong mental game that could prove to be an important asset to the team.
Freshman Kai Gordon shot a score of 38 and junior Chari Noddings shot a 50 in contributing to the team’s win.
As competition gets tougher, the coaching staff hopes to see the “closing” mentality of a golfer, meaning that their athletes will perform with confidence and without a conscience in the final stretch.
The Mustangs will play again on Sept. 21 against South Torrance.
