Mira Costa defeated Laguna Beach, 3-1, on Tues. and won the match in four games.
In the first set, Costa started off strong and kept their lead. The Mustangs won by a score of 25-15 to take set one.
During set two Costa fell apart and played a close game. The girls rallied back and gained focus later, but could not pull off the win. Costa lost set two by the score of 26-24.
In set 3 Costa got a lead and did not let Laguna Beach get back into the game. Costa won set three by a score of 25-15.
Set 4 had a lot of momentum changes for both teams, but Costa came out on top to win set 4 by a score of 25-21, and the game 3-1.
The top performers of the game were, junior outside hitter Skylar Caputo with 18 kills, 9 digs, 1 ace. Senior outside hitter Lan Nguyen had 11 kills, 6 digs, 2 aces. Junior middle blocker Katie Rethmeyer had 6 kills, 7 digs, 3 blocks, 2 aces and senior libero Brooke Feld had 16 digs, 2 aces. Senior Sammy Furlan 44 assists, 7 digs.
“We lost a little focus in the second game, but responded well and played better defense.” coach Lisa Zimmerman said. “I think we are ready to start league tomorrow vs Palos Verdes.”
The Mustangs next game is at Mira Costa against Palos Verdes on Wed.
