After receiving “Best Medium sized Delegation” at the Edison conference at Edison High School on Oct. 20, the Mira Costa Model United Nations team is preparing to compete on Nov. 16-17 at William and Mary University in Virginia.
This year, Costa won five Best Delegate gavels, 31 outstandings and 15 commendations at the Edison conference. Costa received more individual awards than it did last year at Edison, but not as many as past years.
“We are somewhere in the middle in our results compared to other years,” MUN advisor Wayne Knutson said. “Solid, but not spectacular. We’ve been more successful in the past.”
Costa delegates are now preparing for Costa’s first appearance at the William and Mary High School Model United Nations Conference XXVII.
“Since this is a brand new tournament, it’s a clean slate,” Knutson said. “It’s difficult to forecast how we will do.”
At William and Mary, Mira Costa will be competing with different schools from all over the country.
“I’m excited for this trip,” senior Zack Teitelbaum said. “My committee doesn’t have a set agenda yet, so the debate will be a mystery until we arrive. I look forward to having my Model United Nations skills tested.”
