“Machete kills” disappoints

Ruthless Mexican drug lords who kill people with machetes do not belong in outer space.

“Machete Kills”, directed by Robert Rodriguez, stars Sofia Vergara and Danny Trejo. The action packed film was hollow. As the sequel of Machete, the sequel was the exact same quality and predictability.

“Machete Kills” highlights an adventure filled with guns, violence, and lust. Machete (Trejo), the main character, is hired by the government of the United States to take down an obsessive anarchist (Mel Gibson) who wants to spread war across the globe.

The movie lacks a unique narrative. It is the classic cowboy versus Indian showdown. The story is not very evident throughout the movie. It is overshadowed by the guns and violence, ultimately driving the movie. Given this was the central focus, the movie lacked the script to even begin to carry on a plot line.

Before the movie even began, a trailer was released for the third movie in the series, “Machete Kills Again… In Space.” This heightened audiences’ hopes and left them expecting more than they received. The trailer for the third film also revealed the basic plot of the movie they were to sit through in the next 2 hours, or the lack of a there of.

Shortly after the beginning of the movie, where it was established that Machete was to help the United States’ government, the movie took dull turn and disregarded that part of the story. Soon thereafter, the movie began to parallel a poor quality James Bond movie.

After the beginning of the movie is established, and the guns and violence commence, it is obvious to the viewers that there would not be a storyline to follow. All the characters are not funny or relatable. They lack continuous characteristics and attitude.

Rodriguez was able to hire a great cast and had great support behind his intentions, however, the product of his film left viewers wondering if it was even the final cut of the movie. The movie had enough of a plot line for a short film, not a feature film for the big screen.

All in all, the movie left viewers not entertained with the cheesy story and over-use of guns, lust, and violence.

“Machete Kills” is rated R and is playing nationwide.
