The Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the First Interim Budget Report at the Wednesday board meeting.
Each year, California school districts are required to file two financial reports with the state. The first budget report covers the finances of the district from the beginning of July to the end of October this school year.
“The First Interim Budget Report is the first look to see how the budget is going,” MBUSD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Rick Bagley said. “There are now more students in the district, so that gives us more revenue to the schools. The teachers’ raise that we proposed in the budget shows more on the expenditure side. There are definitely some new things added to the budget since last year.”
At the board meeting, the district’s current budget was presented in the First Interim Budget Report. The board will present a second report that covers this school year’s budget from October to January.
“As of now, the state is not telling us we will have any cuts, unlike the past few years,” Bagley said. “This is the first year in a long time. The budget situation isn’t perfect, but at least the state is showing more money coming in.”
