With about 50 fresh vehicles making their first debut in the United States, there’s plenty to see at this year’s L.A. Auto Show. Over 30 major brands such as BMW, Audi, and Mercedes, are showing off their new top of the line cars, hoping to lure in customers for their new products.
This year at the auto show, there were many new Eco-friendly models that are efficient and practical. The Audi A3 E-Tron Sportback hits the stage as Audi’s new hybrid car, that achieves 155 miles per gallon, and has a total driving range of up to 600 miles.
“I’m glad to see that these big motor companies are taking interest in Bio friendly models,” Environmental scientist Jane Christian said. “It’s important that we watch what we’re doing to our environment, and a big part of pollution comes from our cars.”
Also debuting is the new BMW i3, it’s first electric car to be released. The i3 four seater has an aluminum frame with carbon fiber to make it lighter and more efficient. Its sister car the i8, more of a sports car, uses a 1.5-liter three cylinder engine paired with an lectric motor to produce 362 horsepower.”I’ve been a long time BMW fan,” Moe Hirani said. “These new electric models are stateof the art, and aesthetically pleasing”
Jaguar introduced their new F-type coupe, its latest muscular sports model. Billed as a belated successor to the1961 Jaguar E-Type, the F-type bears more resemblance to the XK Grand Tourer and the rest of the XK series. Concept cars have also been a big part of the Auto show. Mercedes Benz unveiled their new AMG Vision Gran Tourismo as well as BMW’s new X4 model to complete the X series. Both German model cars have excellent visual appeal and have top of the line engines and features.
“I’m afraid that the newer models won’t hug the road, so to say, as much as the older models,” says Moe Hirani “That’s why I love German cars like BMW because of their superiority to Japanese companies like Honda and Toyota.”
Another concept car that debuted was the Nissan Sentra Nismo Concept with a turbo-
charged inline four-cylinder engine, packed with 240 horsepower. The new Nissan compared to the regular Sentra, not a top of the line car, had significant internal changes to compensate for the extra power.American companies such as Ford and Chevrolet have introduced new high powered pick up trucks for everyday use. The new Chevy Colorado introduces new technical
upgrades such as the MyLink system that connects your smartphone wirelessly to the trucks navigation and radio.
“Since I was a kid I always liked trucks,” Costa freshman Jordan Cannik said. “I didn’t really like the way the Colorado looked. I especially enjoyed the new Fords.”
Besides going to the auto show, Cannik volunteers at the Automobile Driving Museum car museum and hopes to pursue a career that involves cars.
“Even if I don’t get a job that involves cars, they’ll still be apart of my life,” Cannik said. “I’ve just always liked cars, from nice mustangs, to everyday Ford trucks.”
Jordan hopes to one day get a job at a Ford dealership and also help out with fixing and refurbishing cars. According to Jordan, cars will anyways be a part of everyone’s life, whether they can float in midair, or if they’re just a regular everyday car.
