After an undefeated regular season, a Bay League Championship and a California Interscholastic Championship, girls golf came up short of qualifying for state.
In the girls’ last match of the season in the Southern California Regional State tournament, the girls golf state qualifying state tournament, on Nov. 7, the team finished fourth out of eight teams, with a total score of 390. Only the top three teams advanced to compete in state.
“We were disappointed because we felt that we had a chance of making it to state,” senior Megan Kim said.
Four girls advanced to golf in the CIF Southern Section Northern Individuals Tournament, the first round of the individuals state tournament, on Nov. 14 at River Ridge Golf Club’s Vineyard Course. Sophomore Andrea Lee won the tournament with a 66, advancing to the next round. Sophomore Marni Murez shot a 74, Kim shot a 77 while sophomore Danielle Richman shot an 86, but only Lee made it to the individual finals.
“This season was amazing for the team as well as all the individual goals that the girls completed,” coach Tim Kelley said.
This season, the team won the CIF Central Division Championships, winning golf’s first CIF title. They placed first out of 18 teams to qualify for the Southern California Regional State Tournament.
“I am proud of what they accomplished together and could not ask for a better group of golfers to spend the season with,” Kelley said.
