Only shooting 9% from beyond the three point line, Costa girls basketball lost to Bishop Montgomery 50-31 on Friday night at Bishop Montgomery.
Senior guard Camille Mills led the way for the Mustangs scoring 11 points to go with seven rebounds and six steals. Junior guard Hayley Tojo was the second highest scorer with five points. Senior center Shannon Savino and senior forward Michelle Lanterman both scored four points.
“We didn’t play our best against Bishop,” coach John Lapham said. “Our shot selection was a little off, and we were cold from outside all night. Part of that is because Bishop played excellent defense, and part because, as a 3-point shooting team, we are going to have occasional nights like this.”
The Mustangs struggled early, going down 7-2 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Costa was trailing as the first half ended with a score of 18-8. The third quarter was a lot better for both teams on the offensive side, as the score was 35-20. The Mustangs could not overcome a big deficit as the final score was 50-31, Bishop.
“We need to work on our interior play, both offensively and defensively,” Lapham said.
Costa Girls Basketball has a home game on January 14, 2014 against West Torrance High School at 6:00.
