Mira Costa’s Marching Band traveled to Disneyland on Jan. 11 to perform at the Community Arts Show.

The band had two rehearsals during the week prior to the performance, where it refreshed its technique and reviewed “Marada,” the piece it performed at the show.

“We are held to a fairly high standard,” Marching Band member sophomore Lauren Koch said. “Our performance at Disneyland managed to meet that standard, and all of the band members had a really enjoyable experience there.”

The Community Arts Show showcases local southern California marching bands. Each group must have at least 50 performers to apply, and the applications are judged based on a digital recording of the bands most recent performances.

“We were lucky enough to be accepted to the parade,” Marching Band director Joel Carlson said. “We were glad to be able to attend this event, and it felt great to perform at Disneyland.”

Marching Band’s 2013-14 season finished with this performance, but on March 1, it will perform during the Manhattan Beach Little League parade.

“Since our season is over, we have not really had many regular practices,” Koch said. “However, we are really looking forward to the Little League parade as a chance to once again deliver another great performance for audience members.”
