Costa Model United Nations competed in back-to-back conferences, on the weekends of Feb. 7 and Feb.14 in Chicago and Washington D.C., respectively.
At the Model United Nations of the University of Chicago conference, Costa delegates walked away with seven “Best Delegates,” six “Outstandings” and six “Commendations.” Overall, 33 out of 35 Costa delegates earned individual awards.
“It’s a matter of dedication,” senior Zack Teitelbaum said. “When Costa goes the extra mile, we succeed.”
At the North American Invitational Model United Nations conference, Costa MUN came in second place overall behind Horace Mann, a school from New York.
“Horace Mann is a good team,” MUN advisor Wayne Knutson said. “They are smart, though I do not always agree with their methods. They did a couple of things which were technically cheating, such as having pre-written resolutions, though they were not punished for it.”
The last advanced conferences of the year are next week in New York City and at the University of California, Berkeley.
“Whatever happens then is how our season ends,” junior Bram Osterhout said. “This year has had its disappointments, but we are hoping for a strong comeback at the end of this year and at the beginning of next.”
