The Mira Costa track and field team completed their 20th Mustang Relays on Mar. 29 against athletes from Loyola, Redondo Union, South Torrance, Rowland, Quartz Hill, Santa Monica, El Rancho, West Torrance and Crescenta Valley.
Individually, senior P.J. Onusconich placed second in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Freshman Shante Robinson secured first place in the 100 meter hurdles and second in the 300 meter hurdles while senior Kimi Markley came in first in the triple jump.
On the field, senior Chelsea Tatum represented Costa in third place for shot put, senior Alison Bartak placed second in the high jump and senior Matt Wenner won the men’s high jump. Then, as a team, Costa came in third in the women’s distance medley at 12:50 and first in the womens 4×1600 meter relay.The Mustangs also placed third in both the mens and womens 4×100 meter relay.
“It wasn’t our best showing. There were a lot of talented kids from other school,” junior Sophie Haas-Goldberg said. “The hard part was that we were competing against more than just 2 or 3 teams, which is what we are used to. But some of our seniors did very well and now we know what to work on.”
The Mustangs will compete in their next meet against Peninsula on April 15 at home.
