We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone. The Neptunians Women’s Club in their 105 years of existence, have improved the quality of life, charity, and generosity in Manhattan Beach and surrounding areas, as well as providing local youths and students with academic and financial support.
The Neptunian Woman’s Club of Manhattan Beach is a nonprofit humanitarian program devoted to volunteerism and fundraising events in order to support charitable, educational, cultural and civic services. Neptunians annually awards Mira Costa High School students with arts, music, El Camino College science and engineering or business, and academic scholarship opportunities.
“With approximately 250 members, we are dedicated to volunteerism and the raising of funds in support of charitable and seek to produce and/or participate in numerous philanthropic efforts each year benefiting individuals, groups or organizations in the local South Bay area,” club Philanthropies Director, Jan Fleming said.
This year, due to the success of its fundraising events such as the annual Manhattan Beach Students Art Contest and Tea, The Red Cross Blood Drive, and donations, the club increased the amount of scholarship money it gives to Costa from $24,000 to $42,000.
“This year’s fundraising activities were a success,” club president, Elaine Trotter said. “We are more than proud to call ourselves Neptunians and all our hard work really has paid off; things worked out better than expected and we had more scholarship giveouts than the previous years which is amazing.”
Twelve costa seniors were awarded with scholarships of $3,500 each. Senior Brennan Danlasky was given a music scholarship and senior Carina Chong received one for art. Seniors Milo Davis, Amy Fitzgerald, Madison Lanting, Elias McGregor-Seaman, Kate Scandura, Nicholas Sciacqua, Lia Sepanek, Zachary Teitelbaum, Shaun Wong, and Jasmine Williams were awarded with outstanding academic scholarships.
“I’m very honored to have received this scholarship,” Davis said. “I can’t wait to start college next year.”
The scholarships were given out by Trotter and Vice President of Philanthropies, Janet Fleming on March 25.
“We are extremely proud of all the girls and boys who qualified for these scholarships and are more than happy that we can help them move forward on the path to success,” Trotter said.
