Last weekend, Kid Cudi was on the pursuit of pleasing fans, and he left them in ecstasy through a high-energy performance.
Living up to his big-name indie-rap reputation, Kid Cudi delivered an unforgettable performance during Coachella’s second weekend. His vocal artistry, a mesmerizing sound that combines both rap and alternative influences, and natural ability to connect with the audience made his hour-long set the perfect representation of the indie-rap genre.
Kicking off the set with his fan-favorite, “Revofev,” Cudi amped up the tightly-packed audience to levels beyond belief. Crowd-surfing is common at the festival, but no other performance reached Cudi’s level. Several fans passed around blow-up dolphins and sharks, riding them through the sardine-packed grasses in front of the stage. Mosh pits formed, and not one soul stayed still in the wake of the music. To add to the jaw-dropping musical mania, Cudi even had joint-guest performances that featured Haim and MGMT, whose unique sounds meshed perfectly with his melodic raps.
Toward the end of his performance, Cudi stopped the music and silenced the roars of the crowd to deliver a few meaningful words about the struggles of life, which despite being admittedly corny, transitioned the show fluidly to the next song. Cudi then finished with one of his most popular tracks, “Pursuit of Happiness,” which proved the perfect climax to a flawless performance.
Overall, Kid Cudi gave rap a more-than-good name at this year’s Coachella festival.
