A film that hires adequate actors and has a predictable storyline often counts as a terrible movie. Endless Love not only had these elements but was probably the worst romantic film made in this century.
Although the cinematography was great, Endless Love did not deliver what it was intended to do. Having been a remake of an original, it was disappointing and lacked character. As well as having been made a second time, Endless Love had a weak main character, a confusing plot and a cheesy ending all the while being extremely unrealistic.
The main character, Jade and her lover David were extremely flat with no exciting character or passion. The sole purpose of a romantic film is to clearly show the love of two people no matter the obstacles they may face together. Although these ideas were put into the movie, the acting was overly dramatic.
Particularly speaking about Jade, the actress portrayed a character with no personality or substance which made the supporting actors more entertaining than her. It seemed as though Jade was a boring person when in the original, she had more zeal and as much depth a character like her can have.
Not only was Jade lacking charisma, she was unmistakably awkward. The way she acted with David was not only silly but hard to watch. Her movements and actions weren’t sophisticated and seemed childish.
Gearing toward the father of Jade, his personality and the way he comported himself was so irritating it was unbearable. His actions toward David were unbelievably strict and hypocritical as he wasn’t a good husband himself.
The plot was the most frustrating part of the movie because of how rapid everything changed. For example, in the first ten minutes of the movie, David and Jade went from not knowing each other to almost making out in a closet. The rest seemed extremely fast-paced and quite extreme.
As well a being too quick, the plot was also unbelievably predictable. Every time a new scene begins, an expectation already perceived would be correct. The movie itself was multiple romantic films rolled into one boring, foreseen story.
The worst part of Endless Love was the unrealistic storyline. Although most romantic films are impractical, the love that David and Jade share is ridiculous and extremely annoying because of the fact that it doesn’t happen in a realistic world.
In short, Endless Love was an unexceptional movie with no surprises or plot twists. Being a boring romantic film, it isn’t even worth seeing it at home. The movie should be buried and not remade ever again.
Endless Love is in theaters and soon to come on DVD and Netflixs.
