Recently opened in May, the Fish Shop Hermosa Beach is one of the newest restaurants in Hermosa that is bringing a new style of service, as well as food, to the South Bay.
Whether the customer is dining in, or ordering take-out, as is an option at this new Fish Shop, the restaurant offers over 2,000 different combinations of fish-based meals.
Unlike many restaurants in the South Bay, at the Fish Shop, customers order at the counter, then are served their meals by waiters and waitresses. The Fish Shop sounds like a typical fish shop, but in reality, it is a delicious restaurant that serves 12 different types of fish. After choosing a fish, customers choose a marinate, such as blackened or garlic butter. Then, they choose how the fish is served, whether it is in a taco, a salad, a sandwich, or a plate.
Each option on the menu is a wonderful mix of flavors, tastes, and spices, as the chefs are incredibly experienced with their fish preparing. Some of the featured items on the menu include the Mahi Mahi Salad, the Fish ‘n Chips, and the TKO Taco, which won the Best Fish Taco in 2011 at the San Diego Fish Taco TKO Competition.
One of the largest options at the Fish Shop, the plate, which includes a fish, however you like it, along with two sides, is a great meal for a hungry eater. The blackened salmon, which is highly recommended, is just the right amount of spicy, without burning or stinging the customers mouth, while adding enough flavor to make the salmon delicious. The options for sides are numerous, but the house-cut fries are like real homestyle fries, cut to perfection. The macaroni salad, another recommended side, is a mix of many vegetables and pasta that tastes like it is a home style dish made in a family kitchen.
Another highly recommended appetizer at the Fish Shop is the Fish Shop Shrimp. These shrimp are sauteed in the Fish Shop seasoning, and then served with a spicy chipotle dipping sauce. These shrimp were one of the best dishes at the Fish Shop, with a nice spice for such a delicately cooked shrimp.
Because it is such a new restaurant, all the decor is in incredibly good shape, with nice woodwork around the entire restaurant. The tables are dark wood with comfortable leather cushions for the customers. All of the dishes are recycled plastic, and give the restaurant a homey yet environmentally friendly feel.
Located at 719 Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach, in the old spot where The Counter used to be, the Fish Shop Hermosa Beach is a great addition to Hermosas restaurant scene, as it brings a fresh restaurant feel with healthy and delicious fish dishes.
