The Mira Costa boys lacrosse team’s season ended in an away game on May 6 after losing, 22-6, to Newbury Park.

The Panthers jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter. Costa tried to fight back with goals from freshman midfielder Casey Bonner, sophomore attack Zane Crandall, junior midfielders Nick Coons and senior attack Jake Provencher. Provencher had his 51st goal of the season.

Costa was down, 14-3, at halftime and could not overcome the deficit. The Mustangs finished their season with an overall record of 7-7 and a 4-5 record in Bay League.

“We faced a very good program with a lot of quickness and great stick skills,” coach Aaron Karsh said. “We came out with a slow start, but our boys battled all game long.”

The CIF board nominated four players, Bonner, Crandall, Coons and Provencher, as All-Bay League players. Announcements for the final All-Bay League teams will be named next week.

“I am honored to be named All- Bay League and US Lacrosse All- North team,” Crandall said.
