Mira Costa sent freshman Shante Robinson as their only qualifying representative to the Masters California Interscholastic Federation Track Meet on May 30 at Cerritos College.
Robinson was the only Costa athlete who qualified for the Masters event out of the eleven who competed in the CIF Division Finals a week before. At the Finals, Robinson received first place in the 300 meter hurdles at 42.58 seconds. A week later, she competed at Masters and placed seventh in the same event with a time of 43 seconds flat. Even though she placed seventh, her time qualified her for the State Meet. Not only did she beat out seniors to qualify for State, but she was also the only freshman competing in the 300 meter hurdles.
“It felt amazing to qualify for Masters,” Robinson said. “In the back of my mind I couldn’t process the fact that I was the only freshman. It was crazy.”
Robinson will run again in the State Meet on June 6 at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
