Costa students express creativity through art shows around campus. Advanced Placement Studio Art students put on the “Voices” art show from June 4-10 in room 60.
AP studio art teacher, Katherine Martin, gives her students the opportunity to display their artwork in an art show directed by students themselves. The theme of this art show was “Voices”, and displayed works from the AP Studio Art students.
“I encourage students, especially in the AP class, to initiate art shows in the gallery,” said Martin. “They decide on the theme, gather artwork, promote the show and decide how to display the work in the gallery.”
The theme of voices was chosen to highlight the different styles of the artists. According to artists, the theme was supposed to show how the students use their voices through art work.
“I think the art portrayed many different perspectives, which is always interesting,” AP Studio Art senior Claire Keifer said. “Everybody in AP Studio definitely has their own style of art that we’ve all worked on this year.”
The show had a wide variety of artwork including drawings, paintings, mixed
media and sculpture. Students selected their works of art based on what their specialties are.
“The show was organized and curated by the student, and highlights their individuality
and creativity,” Martin said.
There were over thirty participants, and room 60 was filled with over 40 works of art that students had worked on all year.
“This art show was different from all the other shows because it’s all about the AP class’s work,” AP Studio Art sophomore Johanne Qi said. “The theme is just an end of the year show for all the pieces we made.”
