Kicking off their football season on Friday night, the Mustangs suffered a devastating loss against the Notre Dame Knights, ending the game with a final score of 34-70.
The Knights took the early lead with a touchdown eight minutes into the first quarter, and scoring yet again to end the quarter at 0-21. The mustangs scored during the second quarter, making the score 6-31. However Costa’s defense was unable to keep up with Notre Dame, finishing the first half 12-42.
Despite a great effort by junior quarterback Jacob Silvera, the Mustangs could not catch up to the Knights due to their inability to slow down their opponents offense. With constant turnovers, Notre Dame continued to dominate the Mustangs throughout both quarters. The Knights ended the game with another touchdown, taking the 34-70 win.
“Going into the game we knew they were a good opponent so it was a good challenge for us,” head coach Don Morrow said. “They have some really explosive guys as everyone could tell, tonight they really exploded.”
