Girls cross country competed in the Laguna Hills Invitational on Saturday. In this race, the team competed by grade level instead of skill level. Despite the scorching heat, they produced impressive results.
The seniors finished in second place with Leora Tofler leading the Mira Costa pack with a seventh place finish and a time of 19:54 for the three mile run. Following her was Bailey Chen who finished in seventeenth place with a time of 21:22. All eight seniors completed the course in 26:43 or less, giving them a second place finish.
“I am really proud of us for being able to get second place at our first race of the season,” senior Mckay Gillette said.
The juniors finished in third place with Amanda Han finishing first for Costa and eighth overall with a time of 20:31. The sophomores finished in an impressive first place with Sierra Andrade finishing fourth with a time of 20:00 and Jesse Gregson-William coming in right behind in fifth place with a time of 20:01.
“All grades ran a fantastic race and were able to produce great times that allowed us to place really well,” senior Kara Jeong said.
The freshmen finished in fifth place with Sophia Vialpando coming in first for the Mustangs and twenty-fourth overall with a time of 22:08. Girls cross country will compete in the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic on Saturday and will host the first Bay League meet at Polliwog Park on Tuesday.
