A love for fashion gave junior Paloma Deinum-Buck a ticket to an opportunity of a life time.
Deinum-Buck, the writer of the fashion blog, “From Paloma with Love,” was introduced to the company Cyell, a department store for women founded in the Netherlands, from her uncle. She sent a letter of inquiry to the creators asking if they needed any summer help.
“By growing my blog and constantly working on it, they were impressed by what I have accomplished so far,” Deinum-Buck said.
Deinum-Buck spent five weeks in Europe, and worked for two of those five weeks. During the internship, she observed how a fashion company runs and develops.
“My favorite part was experiencing how things were run, in a professional fashion career setting,” Deinum-Buck said.
Despite the language barrier, Deinum-Buck helped with customer services and ran the media pages. She also helped the stylists with next year’s swimsuit and sleepwear lines.
“There was a little bit of an issue with the language in the beginning, but I know some dutch and many people know English there, so it wasn’t a problem, ” Deinum-Buck said.
The majority of her internship was spent working with social media. She helped workers make the media pages such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest pages more appealing to people outside of Europe.
“I was able to help a lot with the media pages because of my knowledge of our generations styles,” Deinum-Buck said.
According to Deinum-Buck, the internship taught her that social media is one of the most important marketing opportunities for a fashion company. She also had the opporutnity to meet many people who may be able to help her further her career in fashion.
“My internship has inspired me to continue blogging because it showed me how amazing doing what you love is and how realistic it is to reach your goals, as long as you continually work towards them,” Deinum-Buck said.
