The Boys Cross Country team beat records and rivals on Sept. 13 at the Laguna Hills Invitational Meet.

Costa was part of the top five boys teams alongside other schools such as Madera South, Rubidoux, Corona, and Vista Murrieta.

“There were many personal records set,” said sophomore Andrew Costley. “Everyone put in such great effort, our times were good, and there was a lot of team comradery.”

Freshman Xavier Court set a new record as he finished first in the three mile run with a time of 16:14.

“I think the reason I got the record was because we ran earlier so I wasn’t affected by variables such as the heat,” Court said. “However, I felt very strong on the first mile. Up until the hill at the end, I did not feel any major pain.”

Sophomore Caleb Llorin finished 5th in his race with a time of 16:29 for three miles. Out of Costa’s juniors, Ethan Williams ran the fastest at 16:33. Chance Weston led the seniors with a time of 16:17.

“The race was really hot and the team ran well,” Weston said. “My time was not the best. However, it was a good start to the season. We have been working very hard and it seemed to have paid off.”

The next meet is the Woodbridge invitational meet on Sept 20. Costa will put together a team of seven of the best runners from all grade levels and place them on a varsity team to compete.

“It’s going to be our first time running with our full Varsity team this year,” Weston said. “The results from Woodbridge give the team a good idea of how our training is coming along and what we need to change. It also gives us the exposure to large races we need before heading up to the Stanford Invitational.”
